Bike Trails
We offer bikes for rent during your visit so that you can have more options for recreation and discovery. Enjoy an outing on our comfortable Specialized Cross Trail Bikes. Feel free to take the bike for the day throughout Marin or into San Francisco, or enjoy cruising in our local area to our favorite cafes, stores, trails and vistas. Helmets and locks are included with all bikes. While most guests can borrow our bikes at Larkspur Hotel Mill Valley based on availability or your needs, bike rental can be arranged through a local rental company. Here are some of our favorite trails:
Tennessee Valley Trail
Difficulty: Easy
Length: 4.00
Time/Hr: 1.0
A scenic easy ride through a beautiful valley to a small beach cove. This is one of the most popular rides in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) and is excellent for families with children because no motorized vehicles are permitted. Sunny weekends are usually congested with hikers and equestrians (bikes yield to both).
Mount Tam. State Park - Old Stage Road
Difficulty: Easy
Length: 8.00
Time/Hr: 1 - 1.5
This is a beautiful and gentle ride up to East Peak, and one of the most popular in the park. The road is a gradual uphill grade with several rest areas and spectacular views of the entire Bay Area. This is an excellent ride for beginners.
Angel Island Double Loop
Difficulty: Easy
Length: 9.8
Time/Hr: 1 - 1.5
This is a great family ride with stunning views of San Francisco, Mount Tamalpais, and the Golden Gate Bridge. The Perimeter Road loop is paved, but the upper Fire Road is dirt and much less traveled. There are a few short climbs, but overall the grade is easy. The island is rich in history and landmarks. It is a perfect place for a picnic. Bring layers of clothing; temperatures can vary dramatically from one side of the island to another. If you’re unprepared, it can be miserable in the fog and wind. Bring a bike lock if you want to hike one of the trails to the peak. Trail surface: 51 percent paved road, 42 percent dirt road, and 7 percent paved/dirt bike path.
Big Southeast Loop with Coastal Trail
Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 10.84
Time/Hr: 2 - 2.75
The first of two loops in the Marin Headlands, is popular with city mountain bikers as it is virtually right across the bridge and easy to ride to. The ride takes you over the ridge from Gerbode Valley to Tennessee Valley and back on a fun mix of singletracks, doubletracks, and fire roads. The ridgeline views, though incredible, you will likely find the riding itself is more interesting. Further, this loop gives you the perfect excuse to ride up Conzelman Road and check out its oft-photographed view of the bridge.
NW Loop Trail from Tennessee Valley
Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 5.31
Time/Hr:1.5 - 2
This is the shorter and more scenic northwest loop through the scenic Marin headlands, this headlands ride takes you near Tennessee Beach, which favorite option for locals and those “in the know” tourists. The sight lines from the Green Gulch lookout point are first rate. Be prepared, this ride includes fire-road climbing with a quick singletrack descent to finish the loop.
